Notes: EYEHATEGOD from New Orleans is hands-down one of my favorite bands of all time, the very epitome of Southern heaviness. I’ve known these dudes longer than my band has existed, and they always used to stay at my place when they played Richmond back in the day. Their singer Mike IX Williams is a truly superior lyricist, possessing a unique ability to convey sharp-edged beauty through descriptions of everyday ugly desperation— I highly recommend his poetry book, Cancer As A Social Activity. When Mike was out of commission while waiting for a kidney transplant, EHG asked me to fill in on vocals for a tour with Discharge. I was honored, and it was a great run, but I would have much rathered been in the audience watching the band with Mike singing. Here’s Mike doing his thing in Richmond… Agitation! Propaganda!
