Notes: Lake Waccamaw, in the Cape Fear region, is the third largest natural lake in North Carolina. As a small child, I lived in a tiny one-traffic light town just four miles down the road from the lake. During the warmer months, the thing to do on Sundays after church was go cruise beside the lake and look at alligators. I hadn’t been back to Waccamaw in years, so last October I took my lady there— it was still warm enough that I spotted a gator or two, even though it was a Tuesday. I hope the kids still go there on Sundays— beautiful sunsets and big alligators beat staring at social media any day.
